Poula Yak Wool Blanket
Poula Yak Wool Blanket
Huge Himalayan hugs on a cold autumnal night. Our super soft stunningly snug yak wool blankets will keep the chills away.
Yak. Just a simple three letter word and not nearly as luxurious sounding as cashmere….but did you know that yak fibre wool is warmer than merino and just as soft as cashmere? Other good things are….
It’s sustainable - as yaks have a less harmful impact on the environment compared to goats from whom the wool from cashmere comes from. More yaks and less goats equals less desertification.
Plus it’s renewable and cruelty free - as the soft down which is made into wool is shed by the yak’s naturally every spring once they no longer need it. No shearing required.
By utilising the yak wool communities indigenous to where the yaks live gain a sustainable income while maintaining their cultural heritage in Mongolia and Nepal.
It’s a win, win, win!!!

IMPACT
Sana Hastakala was established in 1989, with the financial and technical support of UNICEF, to promote and sell Nepalese handicrafts. Within two years it became self sufficient and is now a successful NGO and Fair Trade Organization. All of the products are either handmade in Sana Hastakala’s own production unit or come from small scale producers across Nepal. Sana Hastakala markets the products of 60 producers, projects and organisations, directly benefiting approximately 1200 individual producers from every region of Nepal.
Above all else, Sana Hastakala is dedicated to fostering the resurgence of traditional craft skills and the use of modern techniques. By doing so, Nepal’s underprivileged handicraft producers, who are mainly women operating at a very small scale and often from their homes, achieve sustainable livelihoods.
