Mixed Media Necklace
All the shapes and elements come together in geometric poetry in this bold mixed media necklace. Copper tubes work with diamond faceted wood to create a contract to white clay orbs. The clay is flecked with green to add additional colour and interest to the piece, which is further uplifted through the subtle glint of brass discs interspacing each of the mixed media elements.
All pieces of this necklace are hand crafted by disabled artisans upcycling recycled materials.

IMPACT
Located near Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city, Bombolulu exists to provide employment and numerous other benefits to over 100 blind or physically disabled artisans. These are people who otherwise would have virtually no chance of employment in the mainstream labour market. Through their craft work at Bombolulu Workshops artisans are able to get housing, medical aid, HIV prevention clinic and vocational training. .
An on-staff designer creates new jewellery lines, including those made out of recycled materials. Besides jewellery, Bombolulu creates leatherwork, carving and textiles, providing work for over 100 people. Artisans at Bombolulu make every detail of the jewellery by hand – even the link of each chain is made by hand.
Bombolulu was established in 1969 as a rehabilitation project supported by the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya Coast, a Kenyan charitable organisation. Bombolulu’s campus includes housing units for artisans, artisan workshops, and a guesthouse to help generate income.
